The Normal-Postured Guy of Notre Dame

The nice weather continued today, and that meant another day of walking around and exploring Paris. On this fine Thursday, that plan included meeting Meredith in the Latin Quarter to get a cheap panini (3€ for a sandwich and drink!) and then walking over to Notre Dame Cathedral. We first went inside the church, admiring the stained glass windows and sheer size of the interior, then ascended the left tower all the way to the top, and from there descended on the right. I took a lot of the gratuitous tourist pictures, but it's so big and pretty inside, and the view is so spectacular from the top, that it's hard not to.

I should back up, though... Before going up the towers, we had to wait in line, since only a few people can go up at a time due to the narrow staircases. As we waited, a tourist-feeding street performer did his schtick next to the line of people, and it was actually funny.

He would just go up to random men walking by and yell "Papa!" and give them a hug, or walk into the street and stop traffic, or pretend to karate-chop a group of students... Since we were waiting for a while, he ended up repeating a lot of his bits and it got a little old, but for the most part, it was one of the best street performances I've seen.

Once we did make it up (after a mandatory 5-minute waiting period in the gift shop), it was much colder,  but the view was great. Here are a few choice pictures:

Once we left Notre Dame, we were tired, cold, and hungry, so naturally we grabbed a crêpe (at the same cheap sandwich stand). In light of my newfound ability to eat Nutella, I had mine with the hazlenut chocolate spread and banana... mmmmmmmmm. Another good day.

  1. It sounds like you are having a great time exploring! I'm glad you have free time to do all the touristy, mandatory Paris stuff :)
